Female Cutting Tutorial

During a Tutorial with two of my tutors we talked about the different sections of this unit. We talked about how this is an opportunity to explore some period cutting and draping on the stand as well as refining patterns as flat patterns to be placed on fabric.

It was suggested that I should start the project by picking one pattern from each of Janet Arnold and Norah Waugh and experiment with cutting and draping as a toile.

The tutors suggested that it will be beneficial to pick two patterns from each book from 1820-1855, these two patterns must be clearly different and give a different challenge.

The tutors also suggested to pad up a stand to the correct shape using appropriate under structures from the costume store to cut over. (If a smaller mannequin is chosen then a corset would fit more naturally around the mannequin.)
